FAMILY CIRCUS ADVENTURES

How I Got Started

We are a Canadian family of four (Chris, Sayo, Aya and Miya) living aboard our Lagoon 470 Catamaran "Family Circus" in the South Pacific.  We left Vancouver and started this adventure in 2017 and have since fallen in love with this lifestyle.  Our mission is to share our home, our experience and our love with others in what we think is the funnest, most interesting way possible. On board our boat! We invite you to join us for the adventure of a lifetime! We promise you will never see the world in the same way again.

2018

Lautoka, Fiji to Port Villa, Vanuatu

3 weeks

October 14th to November 4th

Complete

We love Fiji! The people are so welcoming and the crystal clear waters and abundant sealife take our breath away. After a week or two in Fiji playing in and around the Yasawa and Mamanuka Islands, we will head northwest to Vanuatu which is another island nation roughly a 3-day sail away.  This is a real ocean passage - a very cool experience! Vanuatu is lush and culturally rich but still not that well known. We will spend a week or two exploring the best spots in the islands before heading to Port Villa.

2018

Port Villa, Vanuatu to Noumea, New Caledonia

4 weeks

November 6th to December 2nd

Complete

Our idea of adventure includes experiencing unique and exotic cultures and interacting with local people. This leg has that and more! Vanuatu is one of the most untouched of the Pacific Islands and offers the cultural epitome of South Pacific Cruising. We will explore all the best spots in the Vanuatu Islands before heading to New Caledonia on a 3-day 380-mile passage.  New Caledonia is a French colony so good wine and cheeses abound upon arrival. We love kiteboarding, surfing, snorkeling, freediving or just laying on the beach to chill. Your choice!

2018

Noumea, New Caledonia to Opua, New Zealand

2 weeks

December 5th to December 20th

Complete

This is a great expedition to join if you are looking for a challenging offshore sailing experience.  This 1100 mile (6-7 day) passage is famous for being intimidating as we sail from one weather system to another and time our arrival in NZ between low-pressure systems coming out of the Tasman. Historically we've always had good runs across. We will check in to Opua in the Bay of Islands in New Zealand then spend some time exploring the beautiful islands and hopefully catch up with the resident dolphins.

2019

Auckland, NZ to Great Barrier Island, NZ

2 weeks

February 4th to February 20th

FULL

Think Dolphins, Orca's, crayfish and Kingfish!

NZ has some of the best diving that we've done and we're excited to share this beautiful country with you. It also has some of the most challenging sailing and weather conditions which provides an excellent environment for a first step into the offshore sailing experience. Make sure to pack your rain gear!

2019

Opua, NZ to South Pacific!

6 weeks

April 30th to June 15th

3 Berths Available

$6000

We're off to the South Pacific again. Destination New Caledonia! This leg is a fantastic leg to get a real taste of the offshore sailing experience. We'll plan our weather route, finalize our departure preparations and get ready to spend seven days at sea. On the trip down from New Cal this year we had an amazing trip with 10-15 knots of wind the whole way. We even had time to longboard behind the boat and swim with whales! Every offshore passage has its own flavor and I'm excited to see what this one has in store!

2019

New Caledonia to Vanuatu

7 weeks

July 1st to August 25th

2 Berths Available

$7000

Vanuatu has some of the most remote and exotic cruising in the whole south pacific. If you like remote uninhabited islands with stunning white and black sand beaches this is the leg for you.

The Ni-Vanu people are also among the warmest, most welcoming people we've ever met.

The incredible abundance of fresh fruit and 24 hour markets in Luganville and Port Villa make this one of our favorite countries we've visited.

We met Chris, Sayo, Aya and Miya in early April 2018 in Whangarei, New Zealand. Right away they welcomed us aboard with open hearts and smiles. :) Lovely people! Initially, we signed up for the NZ to Tonga crossing but ended up staying for more than four months aboard Family Circus. And what an experience it was...

Sailing onboard Family Circus is an opportunity not to be missed. The boat has everything you can wish for and Chris is a great guy to be around, who likes to share his passion about watersports. He is an experienced sailor with outstanding ability to stay calm in every situation and solve problems quickly and effectively. We’ve never felt unsafe with him and really enjoyed the time in Tonga and during the Pacific crossing.

I spent a few months onboard Family Circus sailing around in the Pacific (Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, and New Zealand). Despite my lack of sailing experience, Captain Chris welcomed me onboard; I felt a great amount of trust and Chris was a good teacher...
